Ratatouille leads charge in Annie Award nominations.

by Amber Wilkinson

Ratatouille has scampered to the top of the nomination list for the Annie Awards.

The tale of the rat in the kitchen has scooped 13 nominations for the annual animation gongs, including best picture and voicing by Ian Holm, Patton Oswalt and Janeane Garofalo.

The Disney and Pixar animation will vie for the top animation award alongside Dreamworks Bee Movie, Twentieth Century Fox's The Simpsons and two very different animations from Sony - kid's penguin romp Surf's Up and Iranian coming-of-age drama Persepolis.

The winners of the 25 categories will be presented their awards from the International Animated Film Society on February 8, in Los Angeles.

In addition to awards for this year's films, the awards also celebrate career contributions to animation. This year's Winsor McCay Award winners are Oscar-winning film-maker and animation historian John Canemaker, leading Disney animation light Glen Keane (who was a key animator on modern classics including The Little Mermaid and Beauty And The Beast) and Ren And Stimpy show creator John Kricfalusi.
