Natasha Richardson dies at 45

British actress fails to recover after ski accident.

The actress Natasha Richardson has died in hospital.

The British actress, known for her riveting performances in films like Asylum, The Handmaid's Tale and Patty Hearst, is fell while on a beginners' slope at the Mont Tremblant resort on Monday.

Richardson, who was thought to be okay at the time, soon began complaining of severe pain and lost consciousness.

Her husband Liam Neeson, 56, her mother Vanessa Redgrave, 72, and two sons, Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12, had gathered at her bedside after she was flown from Canada to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York on Tuesday. Her husband's publicist announced her death late last night.

He said: "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha.

"They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
