Pedestrians injured in movie car chase stunt gone wrong.

by Jennie Kermode

If car chases in the movies look dangerous, that's because they really are! And though stunt drivers are very well trained, things do sometimes still go wrong.

Two pedestrians were injured yesterday when a car being filmed for the forthcoming Nicolas Cage film The Sorcerer's Apprentice skidded out of control and crashed into the window of an Italian restaurant in New York's Times Square. A young woman suffered an injury to her foot whilst a man was hit on the head by a falling pipe. Fortunately on-set medics were able to confirm that neither had been seriously hurt, though they were sent to hospital anyway, just to make sure. The stuntman himself was unhurt.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a modern updating of the story from Disney classic Fantasia. In this version, a college student is recruited to assist a sorcerer, played by Cage. It will also star Teresa Palmer and Alfred Molina.
