International Community Film Festival winners announced

Community-based films explore themes of war, violence and peace.

"With entries from across the world stage, we were able to showcase some of the best examples of community film work," said festival director Ian McCormick of the work submitted for the University of Northampton's annual awards.

The ICFF may not be the biggest name in the festival business, but it's one that counts in the independent filmmaking community, especially when it comes to work that explores social themes. This time around the judges were unable to decide who should take first prize, so it was shared between the Palestinian-Italian co-production Under The Same Roof and India's Children Need Playgrounds. Further awards went to Trouble Sleeping, Crack, Tuesday At The Grand, Te Whare and The Invisible City.

"Our Festival brilliantly demonstrated that film makers from across the world are working in partnership with communities to raise awareness of their issues and as a creative force for social change," said McCormick, extending his thanks and congratulations to all the filmmakers who made this year's competition so interesting and so touch.
