Raindance 2009 festival programme announced

Humpday and The Girlfriend Experience to top the bill.

by Jennie Kermode

The directors of this year's Raindance festival have just announced their full film line-up, and it's strong on British films, including Ben Wheatley's Down Terrace, The Cry Of The Owl with Paddy Considine, and the already legendary low-budget zombie feature Cloin, allegedly made for just 45 quid. The usual impressive Japanese strand will also be in evidence, with Sachi Hamano making a personal appearance to introduce her eagerly anticipated Lily Festival, a gently playful tale of romance in later life. Attendees can also look forward to the UK premiere of Love Exposure.

Raindance's big hitters include a last chance to see the late great David Carradine as he stars in David Miller's My Suicide, and the UK premiere of Modern Love Is Automatic, exploring the life of a dominatrix. Son Of The Sunshine tells the story of a young man with Tourette's syndrome and extraordinary healing abilities, whilst the documentary strand includes They Call It Acid, a fascinating look back at acid house culture with interviews from many of the key players.

Raindance runs between 30 September and 11 October. For further information visit http://www.raindance.co.uk
