Across The Street, Around The World

Films and events celebrate diversity in West London.

by Jennie Kermode

There's a great chance for Londoners to catch rarely seen films, meet filmmakers and join in film discussions as the Across The Street, Around The World arts festival opens this week. Organised by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea council, the festival is part of London's celebration of Black History Month and includes an exclusive screening of highlights and award winners from the 2010 Portobello Film Festival.

Among the guests attending the festival will be directors Ronan Pollock and Kolton Lee and producer Horace Ove. Films screening include 1987's Playing Away and new documentary Score Against The Law. There will also be a panel discussion about urban gangster dramas and the possible risks of stereotyping black youth.
