by Amber Wilkinson

Curzon Artificial Eye has launched a film on demand service.

Curzon On Demand will offer day and date releases of independent, art house and world cinema films in High Definition to both the UK and Ireland from today.

The move by the distributor - which also owns the Curzon Cinemas chain - means that movie fans who struggle to get to arthouse cinemas a chance to catch the latest releases in their own home.

Films will be programmed specifically for the site http://www.curzoncinemas.com/film_on_demand/ in line with its cinema releases. Curzon On Demand also plans to offer films available exclusively online, online premieres and special events such as talent Q&As.

Films are available from £4 - for DVD releases - rising to £8 for cinematic releases, with discounts for members.

The Curzon On Demand service will launch with Mathieu Amalric’s burlesque comedy On Tour, winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes 2010, and the British drama In Our Name, available at the same time as their theatrical releases from December 10.
