Natalie Wood drowning still in dispute

Death certificate amended to reflect ongoing investigation.

by Jennie Kermode

Last November, Eye For Film reported on the re-opening of an investigation into suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Natalie Wood. Now her death certificate has been amended to give the cause of death as 'drowning and other undetermined factors'.

It was 1981 when Wood, then 43, was found floating in the sea near Los Angeles. She had been on a yacht trip with her husband Robert Wagner and co-star Christopher Walken, and was thought to have fallen overboard whilst intoxicated. But bruises on her body and the actress' well known fear of the water led some to suspect foul play.

After nine months of fresh investigation, the amended certificate also states that there can no longer be certainty about how she died, but the coroner's office has been instructed not to discuss it further. It is understood that detectives have been re-examining the yacht where the Rebel Without A Cause star spent her final night.
