Explosion in Prague film school

Dozens injured in blast.

Dozens of people have been injured and two are still missing after an explosion ripped through the Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in cental Prague today. Nearby buildings have been evacuated and rescuers are working their way through the rubble. At least 35 people have been taken to hospital but students at the school are all believed to be safe.

The film school, which attracts students from all ovr the world, is one of the oldest in existence and has its own production facilities. These were not damaged in the explosion but some facilities at the school are expected to be closed for at least a week. The first floor of the building has been badly damaged with doors and windows particularly affected. Several bystanders were injured by flying glass.

At this stage the cause of the explosion is unknown but it is thought to be a ruptured gas main in an adjacent building.
