New Star Wars film to shoot on Skye?

Skywalkers may be heading for Scotland.

by Jennie Kermode

JJ Abrams' hotly anticipated Star Wars VII may be coming to Scotland, according to reports in today's Sun. An unnamed source has stated that the sequel to Return Of The Jedi will take advantage of the Isle of Skye's stunning scenery to create a mountainous planet where part of the action will take place. Orignal stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford have already said they are likely to be returning for the film, though it is not known whether or not they will be involved in a Scottish shoot.

Skye has caught the eye of filmmakers worldwide since the Old Man of Storr and its surrounding rocks provided part of the backdrop to Prometheus in 2012. A key location for British filmmakers in the Forties and Fifties, it now seems to be be embarking on a second film career as science fiction scenery.
