GFT opens third screen

Historic independent cinema now has room for more.

by Jennie Kermode

The Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT), famous as Quetin Tarantino's favourite cinema and the heart of the Glasgow Film Festival, will open a third screen tomorrow with a special screening of documentary Leviathan. The 60 seater screen features luxurious black leather seats with brass and teak adding to its elegance.

The new screen is part of a revamp of the cinema, now approaching its 75th anniversary, that includes returning the box office to its original position near the entrance, installing digital flat screens in the entrance lobby and providing full disability access throughout.

"We are delighted to start our [anniversary] celebrations with the opening of our third screen at GFT, which amongst screenings and private hires, will also become home to the GYFF Youth Team. Glasgow Youth Film Festival is the only festival of its kind in Europe to be curated and programmed entirely by 15-17 year olds, and we are delighted that Cinema 3 will give the team a permanent base," said GFT CEO Jaki McDougall.
