Paul Walker dead at 40

Fast And Furious star killed in car crash.

by Jennie Kermode

He starred in the Fast And Furious Films, Flags Of Our Fathers and Varsity Blues in a big screen career that spanned 27 years, but at the age of just 40, Paul Walker has died. He and a friend, Roger Rodas, were killed yesterday afternoon when their red Porsche Carrera GT crashed into a street lamp and tree in the Californian community of Valencia. The car burst into flames and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

They had been on their way to a fundraising event intended to help victims of Hurricane Haiyan, run by the actor's own charity, Reach Out Worldwide. The Sheriff's department said that speed appeared to have been a factor in the crash.

Walker grew up in the San Fernando Valley and, though he worked toward a career as a marine biologist, acted throughout his life, featuring in his first advert at the age of two. In his personal life he enjoyed surfing and jiu-jitsu. He put his academic credentials working with National Geographic to tag great white sharks and he was a keen race car driver.

He is survived by a teenage daughter.
