American Hustle named Best Film at New York Film Critics' Awards

Steve McQueen takes Best Director.

The New York Film Critics' Awards were announced last night, with American Hustle winning the coveted Best Picture award. It also took Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (for Jennifer Lawrence, whose work in several films has attracted a lot of positive attention from critics this year). Meanwhile, Steve McQueen won Best Director for 12 Years A Slave.

The first major event in the awards calendar, this is seen as an important place to win in order to boost the chances of Oscar success.
