Teens storm Florida cinema

Shots fired during mystery riot.

by Jennie Kermode

Around 800 young people stormed a cinema in West Oaks Mall, Ocoee, Florida, yesterday, with 200 thought to have got inside before security guards were able to seal off the building. Although police quickly arrived at the scene and at least one arrest was made, it is still not clear what triggered the riot, though it has been suggested that a flashmob was organised using social media.

Although most of those involved were teenagers, some are thought to have been under 12 years of age. Officers from the Orange County Sheriff's Office surrounded those outside the cinema and were able to move them away from the mall to which it was attached, but concerns grew after several fights started in the parking lot and shots were fired. Fortunately, no-one seems to have been seriously injured. The investigation continues.
