The Producers' Guild of America yesterday revealed its shortlist for the most impressive efforts in production over the past year. In the live action category, these are The Big Short (Brad Pitt & Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner); Bridge Of Spies (Steven Spielberg, Marc Platt, Kristie Macosko Krieger); Brooklyn (Finola Dwyer & Amanda Posey); Ex Machina (tbc); Mad Max: Fury Road (Doug Mitchell & George Miller); The Martian (Simon Kinberg, Ridley Scott, Michael Schaefer, Mark Huffam); The Revenant (Arnon Milchan, Steve Golin, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Mary Parent, Keith Redmon); Sicario (Basil Iwanyk, Edward L. McDonnell, Molly Smith); Spotlight (Michael Sugar & Steve Golin, Nicole Rocklin, Blye Pagon Faust); and Straight Outta Compton (Ice Cube & Matt Alvarez, F. Gary Gray, Dr. Dre, Scott Bernstein).

In the animated film category, the nominees are Anomalisa (Rosa Tran, Duke Johnson, Charlie Kaufman); The Good Dinosaur (Denise Ream); Inside Out (Jonas Rivera); Minions (Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy); and The Peanuts Movie (Craig Schulz, Michael J. Travers).

The Producers' Guild of America awards have historically been a strong indicator as to which film will win the Best Picture Oscar. This year the winners will be announced on 23 January at a ceremony in the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles.
