Truman was the big winner at last night's Goya awards - the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars. Cesc Gay's comedy about a terminally ill man who spends four days with an old friend won five awards - Best Director (Cesc Gay), Best Original Screenplay (Cesc Gay and Tomás Aragay), Best Leading Actor (Ricardo Darin) and Best Supporting Actor (Javier Cámara). It will screen in the UK as part of the Glasgow Film Festival later this month.

Isabel Coixet’s friendship drama Nobody Wants The Night - which opened Berlin Film Festival last year - also won five Goyas.

Its star Juliette Binoche lost out to Natalia de Molina's performance in Juan Miguel del Castillo’s gritty drama about a single mum Food (Techo y Comida) in the Best Actress category. Picking up the award, she said: "I was happy just to be able to see Juliette Binoche in person."

Paula Ortiz's The Bride (La Novia), received the Goyas for Best Supporting Actress (Luisa Gavasa) and Best Cinematography. The Best New Actress plaudit went to Irene Escolar for her performance in An Autumn Without Berlin (Un otoño sin Berlín ), directed by Lara Izagirre. Actor-turned-director director Daniel Guzmán won the Best New Director Award for Nothing In Return.

Pablo Trapero's The Clan was named Best Spanish Language Foreign Film.
