Turkish festival screens films online for free

The !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival has partnered with Festival Scope to offer a “New Cinema from Turkey” selection for free online.

The initiative is letting viewers worldwide watch 14 new films from up-and-coming directors in Turkey.

The films will be available via Festival Scope at the same time as the !f Istanbul Festival from February 18-28. Each film will be screened to a maximum of 400 viewers for free. The selection includes short films and the following features:

  • Hidden (Dir: Ali Kemal Çınar) - Ali Kemal and Berfin are a couple living an ordinary life while waiting for their wedding day. After a surprise visit from an unknown woman to Ali Kemal’s shop, they find themselves awaiting a magical metamorphosis that will lead to Ali Kemal’s sex change.
  • Bağlar (Dir: Melis Birder and Berke Baş) - Documentary about the fate of a boys basketball team in Turkey’s conflict-torn south-east.
  • Nekro (Dir: Pınar Sinan) Thriller about a hospital orderly with an unusual pastime.
  • Naciye (Dir: Lutfu Emre Cicek) - A woman is determined to do whatever it takes to protect her home.
  • The Dog (Dir: Esen Işık) - How four characters change when confronted with those stronger than them.
  • Daddy’s Girl (Dir: Melisa Üneri) - Documentary charts the filmmakers attempt to understand a relationship betweeen her father and grandmother.
  • #resistayol (Dir: Rüzgâr Buşki) - Documentary about LGBTI activism in Turkey, filmed in Istanbul during the 2013 Gezi Park protests.

Festival Scope has also announced a selection of films called the Capricci Selection, available for between two and four euros, featuring recent festival hits, including Hard To Be A God and Emir Baigazin's Wounded Angel.
