European Film Awards nominees announced

Toni Erdmann heads field with five nominations.

Toni Erdmann is leading the charge in the European Film Award nominations. Maren Ade’s comedy drama about a woman whose father shakes up her life when he pays her a visit, is up for five gongs, including best film and acting nominations for Sandra Hüller and Peter Simonischek.

Ken Loach’s damning examination of the British benefits system I, Daniel Blake, has four nominations, including best film and Paul Laverty, for screenplay.

Both Pedro Almodóvar’s Julieta and Paul Verhoeven’s Elle scored three nominations each, including best film, with that top prize category rounded out by Lenny Abraham’s Room.

More than 3,000 EFA Members will now vote for the winners who will be presented during the awards ceremony on December 10 in Wroclaw, Poland.
