Double Jeopardy star Ashley Judd is suing disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein for alleged sexual harassment and defamation.

The actress, who was one of the first women to accuse the Oscar-winning producer of sexual misconduct last year, filed the civil suit in Los Angeles.

The lawsuit states: "Weinstein used his power in the entertainment industry to damage Ms Judd's reputation and limit her ability to find work."

The move comes months after Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson said he "blacklisted" her and Mira Sorvino after Weinstein's company Miramax told him they were "a nightmare" to work with.

Weinstein's representative issued a statement saying the ex-studio head had “neither defamed Ms Judd nor ever interfered with Ms Judd’s career”.

If the lawsuit is successful, Judd says she will donate the money to the Time's Up movement which aims to end sexual harassment and emerged following the claims against Weinstein and other prominent men in the entertainment world.

Weinstein, 65, previously apologised for some aspects of his behaviour but "unequivocally denied" allegations of non-consensual sex and sexual assault.
