Aimed at 18-25-year-olds, it aims to showcase LGBT+ film, and recruit a group of young, passionate LGBT+ cineastes who will meet regularly to discuss films they’ve seen, explore the themes raised and contribute to the selection of films to be screened at the cinema in the future. It is hoped that the group will continue to meet and help curate a regular strand of LGBT+ films.
The project will start with a series of screenings of LGBT+ films in the lead up to Edinburgh Pride, on 16 June. Each film will be introduced by project coordinator Dan Brown, a freelance film programmer and maker. Dan will lead a post film discussion and meet anyone interested in getting involved with the young LGBT+ film group.
The titles being shown include:
• A Fantastic Woman on 11 June
• Blue Is The Warmest Colour on 13 June
• Call Me By Your Name on 15 June
• Love, Simon on 16 June
The group will then meet regularly over the next eight Thursdays, from 21 June, to discuss films and grow their skills and expertise – they will have the opportunity to meet film critics, film programmers and marketing experts who will give them industry tips on how to review, select and promote films for the strand.
