Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story has taken a marginal lead in the Golden Globes race, with six nominations, putting it one ahead of The Irishman and Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood. With Scorsese's film dominant during the early stages of awards season, this could be a sign that the competition is going to be much tighter than expected.

With only two women nominated for film awards outside the acting categories, critics have been asking what has happened to supposed progress in diversity within the industry. "I was on the inside for the first time this year. These are not our people and they do not represent us," said Honey Boy director Alma Har'el. "Do not look for justice in the awards system. We are building a new world."
