Parasite triumphs in OFCS awards

Bong Joon Ho's film scoops six awards

Parasite followed up on its Best Foreign Language film win at the Golden Globes by taking home six awards in the Online Film Critics Society annual poll.

The film, which tells the story of a cash-strapped family who inveigle their to the lives of a wealthy clan, was named Best Picture, as well as picking up the awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Film Not in the English Language and a special gong for production design.

It marked the second year that a non-English language film took the top prize, after Roma won last year.

The acting awards went to Lupita Nyong'o for Jordan Peele's horror film Us and Adam Driver for his performance as a husband going through divorce in Marriage Story. Brad Pitt took home the Best Supporting Actor accolade for Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and the Best Supporting Actor award went to Jennifer Lopez for Hustlers.

Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, which received the most nominations, won the Best Adapted Screenplay award for Steven Zaillian.

Josh Cooley’s Toy Story 4 was named Best Animated Feature and Todd Douglas Miller’s Apollo 11 won Best Documentary.

The OFCS, which represents 284 film critics from around the world, also chose to honour the Agência Nacional de Cinema (the National Cinema Agency of Brazil) for their work supporting art against attacks from their fascist government.
