Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have revealed that they have tested positive for Covid-19.

"We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches," said Hanks in an announcement on Twitter. "Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive."

The couple are reported to be in reasonable health despite their unpleasant symptoms, but are following medical advice and remaining in isolation and under observation at Gold Coast University Hospital. Hanks said that they will stay there for as long as public health and safety requires it, and that they are taking things one day at a time.

Hanks has been based in Australia for some time, working on a Baz Luhrmann film about Elvis Presley, and some outlets have reported that another person working on the film has tested positive for Covid-19. Wilson has been in Beverly Hills during the period when she could have been carrying the virus.

There are currently 140 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Australia.

Elsewhere, the release of A Quiet Place II has been postponed by Paramount.

A spokesman said: “After much consideration, and in light of the ongoing and developing situation concerning coronavirus and restrictions on global travel and public gatherings, Paramount Pictures will be moving the worldwide release of A Quiet Place Part II. We believe in and support the theatrical experience, and we look forward to bringing this film to audiences this year once we have a better understanding of the impact of this pandemic on the global theatrical marketplace.”

Sony announced earlier this week that the release of Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway would also be postponed due to the outbreak.
