Born in Cyprus, Kevorkian studied film at the University of Westminster in Harrow and went on to make several impressive shorts before writing, directing and producing his first feature. Though he worked with fantastic themes, he was committed to presenting authentic characters and worked with stars including Luke Treadaway and David Bradley. Prior to the pandemic, he had been working on two features and a horror anthology, and he was expected to become a leading figure in the genre.

"Johnny was a tenacious and much-loved filmmaker whose dark screen visions brought joy and thrills to many, and whose humble and affable presence in real life did just the same. He was well known within the UK film industry and will be sorely missed by all. I’m grateful to have worked with him,” said Await Further Instructions producer Jack Tarling.

"I couldn't have valued his warmth, humour, vision, and humanity any higher," said his friend and screenwriter Gavin Williams.

"I will miss Johnny Kevorkian very much. Such a tremendous man, a good friend, full of sparkling curiosity - the kind of person always looking for diamonds in the rough," said Frightfest's Greg Day. "He and his films live on in a lot of us."
