The Los Angeles Police Department last night confirmed that it is investigating an allegation of rape against Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer, who has been the subject of rumours about his sexual behaviour ever since the emergence of text messages he allegedly wrote to former girlfriends. His legal team has denied the charges, describing them as "attention seeking," and says that he "welcomes the opportunity to set the record straight."

The complainant, who was 20 when she met the then 30-year-old actor on Facebook in 2016, claims that in 2017 he raped her, banged her head against a wall and committed other acts of violence against her, making her feel afraid that he was going to kill her. Her attorney, Gloria Allred, says that photographs showing injuries which support her claim have been provided to the police.

Both the complainant and Hammer (through his legal team) acknowledge that the two knew each other until last year. Hammer asserts that all the interactions he has had with his sexual partners were negotiated and consensual, and that the text messages supposedly sent by him were works of fiction.
