BAFTA has announced its EE Rising Star nominees for this year, an award that aims to celebrate new acting talent and that is voted on by the public.

Leading the British charge are Beach Rats star Harris Dickinson and Lashana Lynch, who received critical acclaim for the role of Nomi in No Time To Die.

Also in the running are US stars Ariana DeBose, who recently took on the role of Anita in West Side Story, and Millicent Simmonds, who starred alongside Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy in A Quiet Place and its sequel. Rounding out the nominations is Australian star Kodi Smit-McPhee, who has continued to build on his success as a child actor in films including The Road and Romulus, My Father, with roles in the likes of Jane Campion's The Power Of The Dog.

Last year's rising star winner Bukky Bakray, who was part of the jury for the short-list selection, said: “The nominees that have been shortlisted this year are all incredibly talented, and I feel so blessed to be part of the process this year celebrating the next generation of rising stars in the industry. The EE Rising Star award is such a gratifying face of recognition and I know first-hand the true gift that it is to be recognised for this accolade.”

Voting is now open at ee.co.uk/BAFTA and the winner will be announced at the EE BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday 13th March 2022 on BBC One.
