Greta Gerwig's celebration of the world's most popular doll is in the pink today, box office sensation Barbie scoring a record-breaking 18 nominations in the Critics Choice Awards. These include Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Margot Robbie. Runners-up at this stage are Oppenheimer and Poor Things, each with 13. Oppenheimer and Barbie were seen as the two big rivals for audience share last summer, with the doll emerging dominant.

The nomination of Maestro in the Best Hair & Make-Up category is likely to attract controversy as some Jewish groups have criticised the casting of a non-Jewish actor with a fake nose to play a Jewish man. Cooper has also received a Best Actor nomination and the film could find itself facing a similarly negative response to last year's multi-award winner The Whale, which was criticised for the way it represented fat people.

The winners will be announced on 14 January.
