3x1

3x1 is subtitled Augenblick ("moment") 28, 46, 47. It consists of three overlaid pieces of film, each of a swing bridge over a canal or harbour mouth. We see cars, ships, pedestrians, and ghostly echoes of the same from earlier crossings, earlier openings.

There's something in the fact that the bridge is an intersection between three forms of movement: by road, foot, or water. Then there's the interaction of movement, light and sound. The initial suspicion that Tobias Schwab's score is timed to the opening and closing of the bridge, the patterns of perambulation degrades until it seems unfounded, but there's still that sense of togetherness, however faint.

As the bridge opens and closes and opens and closes, we see tugs go out and come back, a freighter taken to sea or similar. It's easy to be curious about the Chandra Sirocco, the Arctic Swan, the Gabriel de Cleu, but 3x1 gives nothing away. Telemach Wiesenger has made a film in which it's nice to watch the boats go by, but it can't eliminate the sneaking suspicion that it'd be nicer to go outside and, well, watch boats go by.
