A girl loses her job and finds a carton of money outside the door of her apartment. When boxers in the employ of a gangster come to collect it, she kills them. She doesn't mean to. It just happens, like all the other deaths.
Although absurd and gruesome, this Thai film has a wicked sense of humour. What it lacks in sophistication, it gains in other ways. Finally, the body count is too much and the soft ending negates everything that has gone before.
Starting from a simple premise - how do you dispose of dead people without being being found out? - writer/director Pen-ek Ratanaruang can't stop there and the subsequent mayhem takes on Shakespearean proportions.
Lalita Panyopas plays the girl in a shy, quiet manner, as if she is the innocent victim, not responsible for her actions, while at same time indicating a steely resolve. It is a performance that requires a straight face and a strong stomach.
