A Moment's Brightness

A Moment's Brightness

Music videos are a licence to be pretentious. What's good about Kerry Mullaney's is that it films The Acute actually playing on an artily lit stage and there's a Roxy Music glam rock look to them, languid and skinny, with girly floppy hair and a decadent feel. The song's not bad, either.

True to tradition, the band in full play is intercut with children in white nighties running down concrete stairs and along corridors in dodgy light. What this means is anyone's guess. Mix the word "decadent" with "little girl" and "nightie" and there could be trouble. Mullaney just escapes.

The lead singer has a loose white shirt, cut off at the shoulders, with capital letters along his right arm and an effective glitter painted purple mask across his eyes. He's straight out of Christopher Isherwood's Berlin. And he never smiles.

Cool, or what?
