All Over Brazil

It's the Seventies and Scotland has a half-decent football side - no, really! -and 13-year-old Steve's dad loves his footie, especially during the World Cup. Steve, on the other hand, isn't a fan of the beautiful game, preferring to nick off with his sister's glam rock gear and make up in an attempt to mimic Slade.
All Over Brazil is a thoroughly enjoyable exploration of family life, without mum, and neatly encapsulates an era.
Ian de Caestecker (Steve) deserves a special mention, as he crops up in the intelligent 16 Years Of Alcohol, also appearing at EIFF. He's a young, talented actor, of whom I'm sure we'll be hearing more in the years to come.
