Atomic Hubbub

Stephen Irwin's 90 second animation adds relatively silly pictures to advice that hasn't dated well - precautions and procedures for dealing with a nuclear attack. Much of it appears to be from the Fifties, before saturation attacks and megatonne yields and a greater awareness that as the technology of global thermonuclear war improved the odds of anyone surviving declined. Divorced from context, of course, lots of things seem nonsensical, but when paired with grinning figures clad only in wellingtons and pursed-mouthed whistling songbirds no amount of gravitas would survive. For its brevity, it still manages to raise a fair few laughs, but it will be interesting to see how Irwin's talent translates to longer forms.
