Playing with a timeline is always popular. Memento and Irreversible played with the idea of perceptions and, on a small scale so does attack.
In the things-are-never-what-they-seem tradition, a police officer takes notes as a black youth recounts how he was attacked by a white “nazi, who is now lying spark out on the floor having been beaten up by the black kid’s pal.
Scene by scene, time tracks backwards to reveal a very different series of events. While the story holds little surprise, since this sort of thing has been done so much in the past, it is still very well executed.
Using a beat in time with the flashing of the police light, initially, supplies a tense backdrop for the action and the acting by Callum Walker, Marcel McCalla and Michael Ellis is top notch.
