Born in USSR

“Once there was a country of peace and prosperity. The name of that country was USSR.”

So are you sitting comfortably, children? This short animated allegory is narrated in the form of a fairytale. The children of USSR were very happy, but they wondered what life was like for children beyond their land. Did they have blue skies and red stars too?

So one night they created a magical ship and sailed far away until their red star disappeared from view. Was it all just a dream? Had it ever existed at all?

It’s a nice idea which could have been better executed, even on a low budget. The animation, using paper cut-outs as if from a scrapbook, is not that visually interesting. It's meant to look like a storybook, but it must have been a very dull storybook. With a little more imagination, it could have been made much more magical and appealing.

The soft voice telling the story has the right pitch, but is almost swallowed by the background sound.

It’s only a seven minute film, but with more care it could have been so much better.
