Enough

Technically the first film of 2019's Glasgow Short Film Festival, described by festival director Matt Lloyd as apt (a feeling that "needs no explanation in this current climate"), Enough is a glorious bit of short filmmaking.
Little felt people, flawlessly stop-motioned into life, have had enough. In meetings and houses, at bus stops (shades of Radiohead's Just), to audience laughter these rounded rebellions are from folk who have been pushed to their bulbous breaking points, whose threads (multiple, closely-woven) have snapped.
Amok, they run. Not a single yarn, but a set of sensations - unplugged and defenestrated in a smooth sweep, the sizzle of fuzzy flesh on a still small stove-top, this has a quality that doesn't so much belie its origin as a student film but make it clear how good these incubators for talent actually are. It's available on Anna's website right now and you should watch it. Just open a new tab and go. Let it roll you along with it. Let gravity take you. There's a freedom to it, an indulgence of impulse, a sequence that reminds me of a story I heard about a roadside bar in New Zealand, an absolute, well, it's not joi de vivre and it's not schadenfreude either - it's somewhere in between. It's enough. It's more than enough.
