Fly On The Window

This is an interesting experiment in perspectives, a computer generated environment that we see through the eyes of a fly, a child, a fish, a dog, and a drunk. Each is skewed in its own way, but as a whole this short is worth a look. The fish is called Jaws, and from his bowl the world is bulbous and muffled; for Bongo, the bullet-headed dog the most important thing is a stick; to the titular fly the world is like the surface of a globe mapped to a plane - everything visible.
Director Nikita Diakur has produced an entertaining little short. Though it's light on plot it's more about how things are seen rather than what. The character designs are simple rather than crude - the boy's father looks a lot like Phil Collins, and Bongo almost resembles a pig at times. It's also nice to see extensive music credits, necessary here in part because the range is as kaleidoscopic as the perspectives.
This is a pleasant little film, but given that it shares a festival with Toy Story 3 the bar for quasi-realistic animation is pretty high. It's not that Fly On The Window has anything wrong with it, it's just that it might be nice to see a strong central idea given more time and resources to be developed.
