Goldfrapp: Strict Machine

There is an art form, lazily entitled Pop Video. Kids nod their heads and think of boy bands, running through Caribbean wavelets, grinning like monkeys.

Take a long soft look at it. Switch on MTV for 10 minutes and then watch Jonas Odell for three-and-a-half and what remains of your mind will blow away.

He uses a kaleidoscopic technique, cutting figures in half and then joining them together, fusing colour and images to the rhythm of the music.

The result is exhilerating and beautiful, intensely flattering to the pale-skinned Miss Goldfrapp, whose singing touches on the sublime.

This is imagination overload, designed not to flood the senses, but enhance them.
