Eye For Film >> Movies >> Pornography: A Thriller (2009) Film Review
This film really hacked me off. It is in three parts, all ostensibly concerned with the disappearance of a gay porn star.
The first is about the star himself, Mark Anton (Jared Grey), and how he is seduced back into the gay porn world, when he had previously wanted out. The second is about a writer, Michael Castigan ( Matthew Montgomery), who becomes intrigued by the apocryphal disappearance story, whilst researching a book about gay porn. The third is about another gay porn star, Matt Stevens ( Pete Scherer), who is adapting Mark Anton’s story as a screenplay.
The director, David Kittredge, admits that he wrote the script in four days, which becomes abundantly clear as the film sinks ever deeper into a morass of self-indulgence, collapsing in on itself more than once as it examines the borderline between fact and fiction, leaving viewers confused as to whether they are watching reality, or fantasy.
However, the film is beautifully shot, giving an illusion of art house glamour, but be under no illusions, this is pretty much an excuse to show gay soft porn and try to emulate David Lynch’s uncomfortable weirdness.
