Radio is the inspiring rags to riches tale of the young Terry Wogan.

Just kidding. It's actually a sweet period fable about a mentally handicapped black man who is gradually integrated into a Southern town through the local football team.

Cuba Gooding Jnr. takes the Oscar-bait role, pitching it somewhere between Raymond Babbitt and Forrest Gump, although all he got for his trouble was a Razzie nomination.

Ed Harris is the only performer to emerge with any real credit, in what is a well-intentioned but poorly-plotted melodrama that flags up every twist, and skirts around the central issues of racism and disability
