Rom coms can damage your health.

Where is mainstream cinema going? What's happening in the multiplexes? If it's not CGI megabusters, or misogynistic lads-on-the-piss brain deaths, it's a love chuckly sugar rush, two burps from the vomitorium.

The first question to ask of this latest in the genre is how could an honest-to-goodness girl like Megan have a fiance so boring words wilt before describing him? The second question, related to the first question, is how could she agree to run off to Reno (or is it Vegas?) and get married? The third question is for Keira Knightley (Megan) - you are better than this; what are you doing?

There are compensations, namely Chloe Grace Moretz, the Kick-Ass kid, and Sam Rockwell who has always been edgy. She's a screwed up teenager, called Annika, who hangs around the streets with her drop out buds, and her dad (Rockwell) is a no-bull lawyer who doesn't have a life because his wife/her mom went AWOL a while back and he brings work home now and drinks.

Megan gets involved with these kids and has more fun with them than in the sensible grown up world of Mr Boring and his snobby friends. It turns out that the kids aren't drugged up losers after all and Annika's dad is good at his job because he doesn't give a flying fruit bat about social niceties.

Moretz is still waiting for another role as cool as Hit-Girl, despite an impressive schedule of work. She deserves better. Like a 15-year-old malt Rockwell improves with age, while Knightley cannot shake off the feeling that she's just finished her deb season, still as naive as a faun, not that anyone's complaining.
