It's official. Tracking shots are a good way of inviting your audience into a short film.

Cameras shanking through rooms, such as in last year's excellent Iota, always stir emotions - curiosity, intrigue, dread. Shame uses this technique to good effect.

When we track in, someone is hiding behind the sofa, scared and ashamed.

"I have big hands," she whispers through cleverly extended fingers. "You get to look at them; I get something to hide behind."

This is claustrophobic and borderline scary, making you wish for a sofa to hide behind, too. That is until the plot overdoses on ideas in the closing scene. Shame.
