Snow Day
Reviewed by: Angus Wolfe Murray
Anything can happen on a snow day. That's the message. You could take revenge on the school principal, torment the snow plough operator, watch mom play with her youngest son instead of networking on the satellite phone, wince at dad making an idiot of himself on TV, tell the sexiest girl on the swimming team that she has beautiful brown eyes, be kissed by your best friend when you're not expecting it.
Or you could go to a Chevy Chase movie, called Snow Day, and die. Most Hollywood products in the touchy feely, light comedy department are subliminal propaganda for suburban life (the antidote is American Beauty), but occasionally a floater comes along that makes it look so horrendously cute, you want to emigrate to Baffin Island.
A snow day is when so much falls that no one goes to school because everyone is sledging, skating, making ice sculptures and having snowball fights. Nice girls know it's going to be different. This time, they won't lose.
It's raining on Chevy Chase. There was a time when he stood tall with Bill Murray and Billy Crystal. Now he's wearing a snowman suit and forecasting the weather for local TV. If you cared, you would weep. But you don't. You scream.
