Tyger

"Tyger, Tyger burning bright, in the forest of the night." William Blake's poem has certainly inspired animator Guilherme Marcondes, who takes the words as a jumping off point for his complex and atmospheric animation.

A tiger stalks the city of Sao Paulo at night, bringing a jungle transformation to its inhabitants.

Marcondes' artistic mix of puppetry, traditional and computer-generated animation is a feast for the eyes. The colour palette is perfectly burnished and the tiger - a puppet, clearly operated by his puppeteers - alien, wild and wonderful simultaneously. Marcondes says he was aiming for an 'ambiguity' and he has achieved his goal.

The transformation of the cityscape and its people into something other is only a small part of this film - it's the atmosphere, ably completed by music from Zeroum that gives this Tyger its bite.
