Do you believe that the war in Iraq was fought for the right reasons? Do you believe that we were told everything that was going on as it happened overseas? If the answer to these questions is yes, then why don’t you go get yourself a cheesy action flick and enjoy your night. If the answer to those questions is no, then read on…

Anyone who saw Fahrenheit 911 or read Dude, Where’s My Country will know that not every American was behind the war in Iraq, and that it was fought even though there were a lot of us who were against it. What you probably didn’t know is that while the war was being fought in Iraq, there was another war going on that no one knew about... the media war.

Danny Schecter could be mistaken for Michael Moore in more ways than one. They both believe that if you scratch the surface of something then you will surely uncover a dirty substance underneath the scab. They both believe the war was rushed and that not enough time was spent on a peaceful solution. They both believe the war was a mistake.

Weapons shows Danny going deep into the other war, finding out just what happens when the media decide they will be the ones to cover it and what exactly we, the audience, will get to see. He shows how the media glamourised the war and turned it from being one of the biggest tragedies in our history into the next Michael Bay blockbuster. He reinforces the knowledge that we were shown enough to think that what was going on needed to be done and that, for some of us, going to war was the only logical step. What we didn’t know is that only three per cent of the reporters covering the war were against it, and 71 per cent were for it. Think about that for a second.

This is probably the closest to the truth we will ever get to what really sparked the war in Iraq and it is shown the with passion of someone who wants us to know what is really going on behind closed doors.

Whether you were for or against the war in Iraq, you should see this.
