Where We Were

Three minutes is not long to tell a story. Of course, it depends on the story.

Car stuck in sand on beach. Man rushes to find help. Push, push, rev, rev. Out and away. End.

Not quite. There is a punchline that you can see coming 60 seconds away.

The man in the car is inarticulate and frantic. The couple who come to his aid have nothing to say, really.

Character developement: nil points. In three minutes, what do you expect?

Why is the man in the car on the beach? Are the couple married, walking out, having an affair, brother and sister? Does it matter?

What is writer/director Matt Smith trying to say, other than, "There's nowt like folk"?
