New film exhibition comes to the National Library of Scotland.

by Jennie Kermode

With a real buzz in the air over the impending Edinburgh International Film Festival, Scotland's capital is getting ready to host another event for film fans this summer. The National Library of Scotland will be hosting a new exhibition, opening tomorrow, looking at every aspect of Scottish cinema-going life.

Going To The Pictures: Scotland At The Cinema features short films, old adverts, posters, film annuals and portraits of legendary stars. There's a section on Scotland's special place in the history of documentary filmmaking and a look at film records of Scottish life over the past century. Attendees will also get the chance to see materials used in the making of Brave, the Pixar animation that looks set to be one of this summer's biggest hits.

For those who enjoy exploring for themselves, the library has teamed up with Cinematic Scotland to create a walking guide to Edinburgh. Using it, you can explore the city and find the locations for hits like One Day and Trainspotting.

the exhibition will run until October 28.
