Wes Anderson's eagerly awaited animated film Isle Of Dogs is to open this year's Glasgow Film Festival, it was announced today. This will be the second film by the cult director to be selected for the festival's opening gala, after The Grand Budapest Hotel in 2014.

Set in a future world where dogs have been exiled to giant rubbish dump Trash Island, the film follows one boy's quest to recover his beloved pet. It features the vocal talents of Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray, Frances McDomand, Tilda Swinton and more.

"Wes Anderson is one of the most imaginative, beguiling filmmakers working in world cinema and we are thrilled to open GFF 2018 with the UK premiere of his brand new film," said festival co-director Allan Hunter. "It will be a night to remember and the best possible start to a great festival."

Tickets for the gala go on sale on Monday 8 January and include entry to the after party.
