There was a further day of chaos for the Glasgow Film Festival today, with all films before 1pm and after 10:45pm cancelled. Plans to screen Voyageus and a a Ghost Stories event also had to be abandoned because guests couldn't make it.

The Frightfest team boldly boarded a train from London and attempted to make it to Glasgow, where they are scheduled to host a series of films and events tomorrow and Saturday, but they were unable to get past Preston. They have vowed to try again tomorrow morning.

Some guests attempting to reach the festival for tomorrow's scheduled events, including Cold Skin director Xavier Gens, have had their plans complicated by flight cancellations. Although no fresh snow has fallen on Glasgow Airport since early this morning, a strong wind created powdery drifts which made landing conditions dangerous. The airport has just reopened, however, and attempts are being made to help stranded passengers.

The CCA, where some of the festival's screenings and events are held, took the decision to send all its staff home at 2:30pm.

Weather in the region is forecast to be calmer, though still cold, over the next two days. Yesterday's red weather warning has been downgraded to amber but the Scottish government is still advising against non-essential travel. Deputy First Minister John Swinney warned that conditions in some places are potentially life-threatening.
