Ewan McGregor and Ellen Burstyn are among the stars featuring in this year's New Directors Line-up at San Sebastian Film Festival, which has just been announced.

They both star in Niclas Larsson's Mother, Couch!, the Swedish director's debut film, which sees three estranged siblings trying to persuade their mum to leave a couch in a furniture store. The section will open with Chinese film Carefree Days the second feature fromLiang Ming (“Wisdom Tooth”). The section will close with Beyond The Fog, directed by Daichi Murase and produced by Naomi Kwase.

Other films in the line-up include Nicole Midori's Last Shadow At First Light, which follows a teenager haunted by trauma.

The festival has also announced its showcase of Latin American films, Horizontes Latinos. Paula Hernández will open the section with The Ravaging Wind, the tale of an evangelical preacher and his daughter. The section will close with Toll by Brazilian director Carolina Markowicz, which tackles the issue of gay conversion therapy.

The festival has previously announced the first of its competition titles, including Puan, co-directed by A Family Submerged filmmaker María Alché and Benjamín Naishtat, who previously won the Silver Shell at the festival for Rojo. Their latest focuses on two professors competiting for a prestigious job.

Other titles in the main competition include Joachim Lafosse's A Silence, tackling domestic abuse themes and starring Daniel Auteuil and Emmanuelle Devos, and Cristi Puiu's dramedy MMXX which the festival says, "captures the wanderings of a bunch of errant souls stuck at the crossroads of history".

Also competing is Raven Jackson's poetic consideration of a Mississippi woman's life All Dirt Roads Taste Of Salt, which premiered in the US Competition at Sundance earlier this year, and Robin Campanillo's consideration of the colonisation of Madagascar, Red Island.

The festival will run from September 22 to 30 and we are currently inputting film details, so please check back.
