Recreated with actors, shots of the locations, this is a narrated story, a tale of confidence misplaced and an act of staggering kindness. The story is that of Frank, who walked from a misadventure in Glasgow to a stunning piece of charity in Edinburgh. It's short, lyric, a minor epic, seeming almost a blank verse recollection of something that seems almost fantastic.

In black and white, with a song by Frank, this is a trinket box of a tale, touching, magical, real. Robert McKillop's direction is assured, the recreations confident. When Nick Broomfield made the jump to drama with Battle Of Haditha his documentary eye served him well, and on this outing Robert McKillop may be similarly blessed.
